"Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and
some have greatness thrust upon 'em." Shakespeare's work delivers up some of the very best literary heroes and lovers in the world, so much so that it is almost impossible to decide which member of his pantheon is in fact, the best.
Until now. The Dire Theatre Company Heroes and Lovers workshop is an interactive forum wherein our actors present Shakespeare's heroes on stage with overviews and excerpts of their native texts. Our audience is then responsible for joining our hosts as they argue both for and against title of Exalted Hero for the characters in question. The workshop is built around Augusto Boal's Forum Theatre model, and encourages the students to engage in genuine discussion about the characters and their texts, bringing in to question the broader themes of the works as well as deciding on who is and is not really a hero.
