SHEkespeare

Though she be but little she is fierce.
Picture
SHEkespeare is a female led collective that produces the works of Shakespeare. Born from the success of The Dire Theatre’s all-female production of Romeo and Juliet in February 2019, the SHEkespeare project was pioneered and conceptualised by Illawarra artists Isabelle Fredericks and Lisa Omodei.
SHEkespeares goal is providing  female and female-identifying performers opportunities to explore and bring to life the plays and characters of Shakespeare that they would otherwise normally be excluded from presenting.
SHEkespeare is passionate  about building a sustainable, collaborative atmosphere that continues to provide opportunities for performance and capacity building for female and female-identifying artists in all domains of theatre.

The Dire is coming back strong in 2022 with some original works as well as facilitating some of the regions great indie artists. Check out what we have in store and stay tuned for updates!
